1981 Fender Precision Bass Sienna Burst Maple

Up for sale, here’s a stunning late ’70s/early ’80s Fender Precision Bass in Sienna Burst finish with Maple neck, all original with the exception of the case.

As usual on these Fender years, S9xxxxx Serial Number. Pots dated ’81, grey bottom pickups dated ’81 and sticker with matching Serial # not he pocket. Fender had several necks with bodies paired that were assembled years later. Very common to find these instruments with S7, S8 and S9 serial numbers that were actually assembled even 2 or 3 years later, however still a truly late ’70s P-Bass with all the features such as Massive all Maple B neck (0.870″ Neck thickness at 1st fret and .940″ at 12th fret, nut width: 1 5/8″) with skunk stripe, Ash body with 3-ply pickguard with black pickup covers. All parts appears to be original except from the hard case, which is a Poly-foam Wolfpak case, which is in great condition.

Weighting at 10.0 lbs, which is average for an Ash body instrument form these years (not the lightest, neither the heaviest, we’ve seen these years even 11 – 12 Lbs), t’s pretty well balanced. The Sienna Burst Glossy Poly finish combined with the original 3-ply white pickguard and Maple neck makes a great looking instrument. This is an great example of a ’70s Precision Bass, which is well known for its Characteristic round, warm and punchy sound.

Cosmetically, the bass shows some normal play wear for a +40 year old Bass, with some buckle rush, scratches, and little dings over the body and neck however none of these would really affect the playability of the instrument at all. The bass is in Very good condition and it’s been used with the utmost care, Truss rod works great and the neck is straight. Frets have moderate wear however there are no fret issues whatsoever. it’s been professionally set with a fresh set of D’addario Nickel strings .45″ – .100″ and it really plays and sounds fantastic.
